Know what determines carpet quality

Density, not weight, determines quality. It refers to how closely the fibers are tufted together; you can see it yourself by just bending back a sample card. If you see a lot of white space, you'll know it’s lesser quality.

Another indicator is the twist which applies only to cut and high pile carpet flooring. That means the number of turns per inch. Most residential cut piles have a twist between three and six, while a high pile frieze or shag might go as high as eight.

Different carpets for different priorities

Every room has different priorities and challenges. Every lifestyle is different, whether the family is large or small; if there are pets or senior residents who use mobility devices, etc. You must discuss this in detail with your flooring pro; the more he or she knows, the better you can be guided.

Consider fiber and pile. Although there are blends, the five main fibers are wool, nylon, polyester, olefin, and Triexta. Each has various levels of strength and stain resistance.

There are high pile rugs like the shag or frieze. Low pile surfaces, such as cut piles and Berbers, have short, tightly woven threads and are easier to clean.
